St. George’s shopping centre is proud to announce Coram Beanstalk as Charity of the Year.
Coram Beanstalk is a national reading charity that recruits, trains and places volunteers to work one-to-one with children aged 3-13 to improve their reading skills. Thousands of children leave primary school in England unable to read to the expected level. This can have severe consequences on their future, causing them to fall behind with their schoolwork, have low self-esteem and have limited job prospects.
Coram Beanstalk offer a variety of programmes working with children on a one-to-one basis, giving them consistent support to practise reading skills and discover the magic of reading. One of these is ‘Story Starters’ introducing children aged 3-5 to the wonderful world of reading, books and stories whilst improving vital communication skills. ‘Reading Leaders’ is a peer-to-peer programme that operates in secondary schools across the country, where Coram Beanstalk trains older students to work with younger students in their school helping to improve their reading skills.
We are looking forward to working closely with Coram Beanstalk over the next year, hosting workshops and raising much needed funds that can enable every child to leave school with the skills and confidence needed, to maximise their future.
